The master's degree in Urban Engineering is available in the first year to students who have validated 180 ECTS (Bachelor level) in the fields of urban engineering, engineering sciences, urban geography, urban planning, development, the environment, architecture...
Benefits of the program
The master's degree in Urban Engineering is particularly open to the professional world, as much by the constitution of its teaching team as by the teaching practices (alternating training, work in workshops, study trips...). It can count on the network of professionals whom the graduates of the formation join every year for more than 20 years.
This master aims to provide and reinforce the knowledge of the project manager. The targeted skills are legal, economic, technical and managerial. They concern the design, construction and management of urban structures, project techniques, the legislative and economic context, the national and international context of construction and urban development.

Classes begin the second half of September. Students are released from classes for the beginning of the internship in the second half of June.
Your future career
This professional master is aimed at the following jobs: project manager, design engineer, works engineer, project manager, studies manager, site pilot, works supervisor, etc. The main employers are engineering companies, construction companies, developers, communities, developers... Graduates can also pursue a PhD.
Graduates very quickly find an outlet in the various professions targeted by the training (see the statistics on www.u-pem.fr/ofipe/). In many cases, the apprenticeship contract is followed by a permanent contract.
The needs of cities are important in the fields of urban engineering. The main objective of the master's degree in Urban Engineering is to train managers capable of providing know-how for a better integration of the transversal and multidisciplinary issues of the city. The courses taught integrate the technical aspects as well as the aspects related to urban planning sciences, the games of actors involved in urban activities and the decision-making process.

Possibility to follow one or two semesters abroad (Crepuq and Erasmus or non-program programs). Ability to do an internship abroad. In addition, the curriculum includes training in international project management.
Major thematics of Research
The academic members of the teaching team are part of the Lab'Urba, a support laboratory for the Urban Génir Master. Students are regularly associated with the scientific events of the campus (Thursdays of Urban Engineering, Urban Futures Labex, Efficacity...).
|UE1 : Systèmes et techniques urbains|
This EU concerns before any the urban engineering. She has for objectives to allow the students to arrest the functioning of the urban system and her sub-systems, and to form to the techniques of their design and their sizing
|Gestion des eaux|
Give future graduates the knowledge to manage the water issues in the city, it is the provision of drinking water, collection and treatment of wastewater and rainwater, technical systems alternatives to networks. The purpose of this is to question ECUE these elements to move towards an effective asset management.
The objective of this course is to present the specificity of the urban ground, as opportunity for the development of the city but also as sensitive space. Considering the multiplicity of the disciplines and the concerned actors, this course(price) has authority to present and to confront various approaches: geologic, archaeological, technical, urbanistic, land, ecological... A visit commented by the Parisian catacombs brings an illustration of the past and current use(custom) of an urban ground.
|Ville et énergie|
" In a national and international context of climate change, decrease of the resources and the population growth, the integration of the energy questions in the practices of development is imperative. Indeed, if perceptible advances can be identified in the sector of the building(ship) in terms of reduction of the energy consumptions and regarding efficiency, a real change of paradigm is still expected in the urban and territorial scale. The education " City and energy " will present at first (4 sessions) the big stakes, the objectives, the actors and the tools of planning of the energy transition, as well as realizations-lighthouse. It will be necessary then question to understand the functioning of an energy system (3 sessions). A work in a workshop ( 5 sessions) will finally allow to raise(to draw up) an energy diagnosis for a site identified as study case (scale(ladder): of the building(ship), in the district, in the city). This education(teaching) will see academics' participation as well as of professionals.

The notion of "comfort" (thermal, acoustic, visual, etc.) is more and more mobilized when it is a question of conceiving(designing) and of estimating architectural and urban solutions and their environmental performances (reduction of the nuisances, the energy consumptions), but also when we study the practices and the behavior of the inhabitants and the users (improvement of the quality of spaces, choice regarding energy renovation, regarding purchase of equipments, etc.).

Highlight, through concrete examples (rather contemporary) the specificities of conception(design) of realization and interview(maintenance) of the works and the equipments in urban context. The educational engineering of this ECUE is centred on a joint representation which aims to be collaborative with the aim of producing a synthesis document in a group of work.

Giving students the means of a suitable approach to problems related to urban development in developing countries. It is part of a development of anthropology to be taken into consideration by the students that the technique is never neutral and that its use involves worldviews, social relationships, behavior systems vary from one culture to another.
In general, the focus is on alternatives based on what might be called "" popular ecology "" as the need to address issues involving pluripartenariale so far as possible engineers, economists, doctors, anthropologists but also managers and decision-makers and especially the people themselves.

The first half of the year approaches the question of the urban project by proposing a reading of the process and the approach and the actors mobilized for proposing then a focus on the integration of the problems of the sustainable city in the design of the projects and within the public politics. She proposes finally a lighting on the economic stakes in the project with a deciphering on the balance-sheet approach.
This course aims at dreading the scientific field of the urban ecology and its interest for the understanding of the relations which unite the city and its environment. The city is approached on a systematic approach there, crossed by flows of materials(subjects) and energy, which it is a question of counting(recording), to understand(include) the dynamics. Decision-making tools feeding of information stemming from the analysis of these flows are then presented. An implementation of one of these tools is proposed to the students.

|UE3 : Ville et outils numériques|
The objective of this EU is to allow the students to acquire knowledge and skills on the main tools of representation and modelling of the city. This training(formation) in the digital tools will be made in several phases and in different sizes(formats): participation in a week of conferences on the BIM (High rise Information Modeling), done a remote training course in the Geographical Information systems via the platform FOAD of the National School of the Geographical Sciences, autotraining collaborative to the software of drawing (Autocad, Illustrator, SketchUp).

The public project ownership can be implemented only in the respects of the contract law. These can dressed several forms: public procurements, delegation of public service and Public Private Partnership. The project of urban genius pursues the objective to mobilize knowledge acquired by the students and to favor so their transverse mobilization on a site inhabitant of Ile-de-France. He allows to develop an at the same time spatial, functional approach and a technique of the town planning. Organized around a group work, it is the opportunity for the students to develop and to structure a thought around the subjects and the problems of manufacturing of the contemporary city.

The organized educational engineering is plural. Besides a mini-report of Master's degree, the students participate, all year round academic in events such as conferences, public meetings, on Thursdays of the Genius(Engineering) Urbain, were taken(brought) out of short durations
|UE7 : Stage|
A compulsory minimum internship of 10 weeks is planned in first year of Master's degree. He can be made within a public or private body, within a region with a measure of autonomy, within an engineering consulting firm, within companies of arrangement, promoters, firms of architects and town planners ... He has to allow the students to deepen their knowledge and skills acquired during the year, and to refine their professional project. It must be considered a real work experience (and not of a discovery of the company) during which the students see confiding one or several precise missions.
