Benefits of the program
Road insecurity in the world is a scourge (1.35 million deaths, around 30 million injured each year). In Africa, the stakes are even higher than on other continents. The human and economic losses are considerable there, with an impact of several points of GDP. Improving road safety is therefore a major public health issue, but also an economic one, with a significant impact on development aid. The training offered makes it possible to meet a need for training in French, focused on road safety and structured around experts and researchers specializing in this topic. This need had been clearly identified by African actors involved in road safety, as part of the SaferAfrica research project in which Gustave Eiffel University took part. The skills addressed cover the five pillars of Road Safety as defined by WHO and structure the African Union road safety action plan: management, infrastructure, vehicles, users, post-accident. They give participants a comprehensive, structured and documented vision of road safety concepts by addressing them through the specific and diverse issues of French-speaking African countries.
Acquired skills
The training aims to develop road safety action capacities in the countries where the candidates work, and networks of expertise and collaboration in French-speaking African countries.
The skills acquired will enable candidates to take appropriate organizational actions and informed decisions to help improve road safety and implement effective policies.
