Entry requirements

The DAEU (A) is a programme financed by the Ile-de-France Region. It is designed for people who left school at least 2 years previously without passing the Baccalaureate. Candidates who left school at least two years previously are eligible to enrol at the university and study for this qualification if they meet the following requirements:

- are at least 20 years old on 1 October of the year in which the diploma is awarded and have worked for two years, full-time or part-time, whist paying social security contributions for those two years,

- are at least 24 years old on 1 October of the year in which the diploma is awarded. Candidates in the following cases are automatically deemed eligible to enrol at the University:

- have practiced a professional activity during which social security contributions were paid for the corresponding duration,

- have performed military service;

- have spent any amount of time raising a child;

- have registered with the National Employment Agency;

- have participated in a vocational training scheme for young people seeking employment or a qualification;

- have played sport to a high level as defined by Law No 84-610 of 16 July 1984.

 

Foreign nationals must have a valid residence permit on 31 October of the examination year.

 

Admission is decided by a panel of judges after reviewing the candidate’s application and conducting an interview with the candidate (for on-site students).

For on-site students, classes are held on just one day a week so that they can continue working while studying.

Acquired skills

- Acquire a basic knowledge of general culture and literature.

- Practise writing in both French and a foreign language.

- Acquire skills to analyse and summarise texts and documents.

Your future career

The DAEU A is a recognised level-IV French State diploma which gives students the same rights as those who have obtained the Baccalaureate (Ministerial Order of 3 August 1994).

It gives students access to:

- university or any other institution for further study;

- exams, in particular for the civil service, or to training where the Baccalaureate is required;

- a change in career.

If you are planning to undertake further university studies, we advise you to prepare the DAEU and bachelor's degree at the same university.
