Entry requirements
L1: To be admitted, students must have a high school diploma or equivalent for international students.
Prerequisites: good writing skills and interest in visual arts and digital technology.
Benefits of the program
A teaching team made up of faculty members, artists and professionals. A programme which focuses on image theory and hands-on practice. By developing their specialisation gradually, students are progressively guided towards visual studies or digital arts. Possibility for students to work towards their professional objectives, through work placements and tutored projects in L2 onwards.
Acquired skills
The course skills are divided into two equally-important fields: visual studies and digital media and arts. The first prioritises a diverse theoretical approach to image (history of art and image, aesthetics, media theory, visual culture) and the second takes a theoretical and practical approach to digital technology and arts (theory and hands-on practice in digital art, graphic interfaces, interactivity, 3D modelling, web applications, etc.). In L3, students can choose to specialise and further develop their skills in visual studies or digital art and creation.
Students acquire skills by creating and producing digital projects as well as through written academic work and oral presentations.
International
Every year, multiple students study for one or two semesters at a university abroad (in particular at UQAT in Canada), through European and international partnerships established by UGE.

Your future career
The course prepares students to work in production and digital creation sectors, as well as in the digital sector applied to the fields of heritage, museography and culture.
Graduates can also pursue their studies at Université Gustave Eiffel, by applying to the Master’s in Digital Arts and Visual Cultures, the professional Master’s in Web Careers and Cultures, the professional Master’s in Digital and Print Publishing, or the IMAC Engineering Diploma. They may also consider pursuing a Master’s degree in the fields of digital arts or visual culture at other universities.
Professional integration
The Licence degree in Visual Studies, Digital Media and Arts enables students to define their professional objectives progressively. The opportunity to undertake a work placement as early as L2 and to work on tutored projects are key milestones in students’ university pathway, preparing them for their career. Students may go on to work in the following sectors: interactivity design, multimedia design, website development, multimedia graphic design, multimedia creation, teaching, culture, museography, cultural establishments and digital technology, and visual and digital consulting.
Study objectives
The course is designed for students to acquire skills and knowledge in the fields of digital arts and technology and visual studies (diversified theoretical approach to image).
Over the three-year course, students will acquire skill sets in two key fields: visual studies and digital media and arts.
The block of visual studies units is designed to stimulate multidisciplinary reflection around image, drawing on a theoretical and methodological foundation of visual art and image history, aesthetics, visual culture and media theory.
The block of digital media and arts units trains students in digital arts theory and in the creation and production of digital projects (graphic interfaces, 3D modelling, interactivity, digital imaging, web applications, etc.).
Students also develop other skills in academic methodology, personal and artistic expression, and languages.
The first year includes optional units to discover other disciplines (theatre and cinema) and the third year offers a specialisation for students to further develop their skills in visual studies or digital arts and creation.
