Your future career

Access to the M2 Medical Humanities pathway and then to the PhD; in lifelong learning, students obviously keep their existing jobs, but can either enrich the content of these jobs (leading ethics courses, responsibility and/or participation in ethics forums, committees and commissions), or add to their portfolio to progress professionally (e.g. nurses to become managers, practising hospital doctors to become professors)

Professional integration

- Lifelong learning students obviously continue in their existing jobs, but they can either enrich the content of these jobs or take advantage of what they have learnt to advance professionally.

- The programme will enable them to enrich the content of their existing jobs, firstly by being able to respond to requests from their respective establishments: leading ethics courses, running the recently created Regional Ethics Areas, participating in or setting up ethics committees or commissions, and for those who are already trainers in nursing institutes or medical universities, deepening their knowledge then by being able to respond to requests from other establishments, and firstly by becoming medical ethics trainers in nursing institutes, medical universities and social work institutes in their environment.

- The programme will enable them to advance professionally: for example, nurses can use the fact that they have successfully completed this Master's degree to present a more substantial application when they sit the competitive examination for the post of health executive. Similarly, practising hospital doctors wishing to become professors will find this training in medical ethics a useful addition to their portfolio.

Study objectives

- Provide basic philosophical training for ethical reflection.

- Introduce students to the great texts of ethical thought, from Antiquity to the present day.

- Provide them with the means to acquire personal autonomy in reading and using books and other documents on ethics.

- Enable them to think about their practice in the field, exercise vigilance and make ethical decisions based on a study of major philosophical concepts and authors.

Major thematics of study

Une méthodologie est déployée, par exemple à partir d'entretiens semi-directifs et d'observations, pour traiter le sujet. Une analyse des matériaux accumulés, y compris documentaires, fournit ensuite la base de la rédaction d'un document d'environ 80 pages.
