General high school diploma, from any specialisation, or equivalent diploma for international students.

Minimum B1 level in Spanish; for international students, C1 in French.

Benefits of the program

The Spanish programme is unique in that it progressively provides students with a high discipline-specific level of Hispanic language and culture (overseas exchange), diversified skills through the programme, which includes work placements, and access to multidisciplinary classes through other courses (shared with foreign applied languages, humanities and English). Students are supported in creating their own career plan. Innovative pedagogy, platforms, special teaching projects (BQE).

Acquired skills

Acquire a high level of Hispanic language and culture. Master registers of expression. Spanish-French translation. Master linguistic tools to construct discourse in a range of contexts. Understand culture in the Spanish-speaking world (literature, civilisations). Draw on literary and cultural concepts to interpret documents of various kinds and from different periods (Middle Ages to modern day). Develop analysis and synthesis tools to document a subject and exploit data. Discuss topics with a critical perspective.

International

Internationalisation is a key part of courses in Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Civilisations, both in terms of course content and in the importance of offering students opportunities to discover the English- and Spanish-speaking worlds in a general sense. Our students can undertake exchanges in Spain (Erasmus) or Latin America (bilateral agreements). After graduating, students can also apply for a post as a French language assistant with France Éducation International. Students can also carry out their mandatory work placement in L2 or L3 in Spain.

Your future career

Prepare for recruitment exams for primary and secondary teaching, Master’s in Careers in Teaching, Education and Training, agrégation teacher’s exam. Competitive exam for the civil service. Master’s: research, professional (specialised translation, international trade, tourism engineering, other Master’s at UGE or elsewhere). Careers in communications, tourism, international relations, publishing and books, human resources, publicity (after work placements, “Atouts Jeunes” programme to support young people to find employment).

Professional integration

Qualifications acquired at UGE during the course, such as C2i, CLES and TOEIC, appear in addition to the Licence degree obtained by the student.

All students have the opportunity to undertake linguistic certifications (TOEIC, CLES, TOCFL). The university is a founding member of PEPITE 3EF. The purpose of this programme, which involves multiple institutions across eastern Paris, is to promote entrepreneurship among students and enable those with an entrepreneurial project to reconcile their project and their studies. UGE also has an entrepreneurship advisor who can meet with students, give them advice, and suggest some of the services the university provides such as project maturation workshops, entrepreneurial speed dating, the diploma for establishment in entrepreneurship (D2E) and professional advice. The course regularly offers tutored projects in connection with companies (L’Oréal, Danone, Air France, Aéroports de Paris and Société Générale in collaboration with Atout Jeunes Universités).

Study objectives

Master mechanisms of written and oral Spanish language. Express oneself while adapting to a range of audiences and social codes. Produce critical studies (analysis) of documents (textual, graphic, audiovisual) while developing a clear argument (synthesis) using rigorous language. Draw on literary and historic concepts. Acquire knowledge in different areas and know how to connect and move between them. Proficiency in French, English and a third language.

Major thematics of study

Spanish language (comprehension, expression, translation, grammar, linguistics).

Literature from the Spanish-speaking world (Spain and Latin America). Contemporary and classic literature.

Civilisations in the Spanish-speaking world (Spain and Latin America). Medieval, modern and contemporary eras.

For literature and civilisations, each semester alternates between classes on Spain and Latin America, to provide balance.

In L1, literature and civilisations classes are supported by classes on documentary analysis methodology.

In L1, all the classes in the discipline-specific block of units are supported by classes on methodology of academic work.

Calendar

The same calendar (two semesters of 12 weeks) for the entire course, adapted for work placements and student projects. No work-study format available.

Options

Third language: in L1, students choose a third language that they must continue throughout the three years. They can choose between Chinese, Portuguese or German.

In L2, they choose a programme out of the following three: Primary Teaching, Secondary Teaching, or Translation and Communication. Students can change programmes between L2 and L3, but only if they meet certain conditions and subject to the approval of the course director. Students cannot change programmes between semesters 5 and 6.
