Entry requirements

This Master's degree is aimed at STAPS and Social Science (sociology, history, etc.) Licence holders. Students with other level II degrees may be eligible. Candidates are expected to have a definite appetite for research.

Benefits of the program

The Master's degree in Sport and Social Sciences is a research Master's in the social sciences, providing in-depth knowledge (sociological and historical) in the social dimensions and major contemporary issues of the phenomenon of sport. Students have a research major (classes, dissertation, group work, work placements in the laboratory's research projects) and a minor that depends on their career plans, through an introductory unit focusing either on management or on health and adapted physical activities. Each pathway is individually designed according to the student's career objectives, and work placements are chosen accordingly. Another special feature of the Master's programme is the work-study programme in M2 in a variety of sports organisations, with assignments relating to research, auditing, quantitative and qualitative studies or projects relating to the major issues facing contemporary sport. Each year, a major project based on a sporting phenomenon involves the various courses and professionals.

Professional integration

The primary aim of the Master's programme is to prepare students for a PhD thesis. However, it is possible to begin working at the end of the Master's programme, and this is prepared for during the two years.

Study objectives

The scientific and educational objectives are as follows:

- Training for research in the field of physical activity and sport

- Developing research skills and acquiring solid general knowledge in human and social sciences and specialised disciplinary knowledge relating to research into physical activity and sport in its various social manifestations.

Major thematics of study

The major subjects are research methodology, sociology of sport, history of sport and epistemology. Particular attention is paid to technical classes and the use of high-performance software for: survey design, social science data analysis, data visualisation and communication. English classes are offered every year.

Calendar

Classes from 11/09/23 to 12/04/24

Option to follow the M2 apprenticeship programme, working and studying between September and April, followed by a continuous period with the company from the end of April to September.
