Entry requirements

This course is designed for people who have completed (or are currently studying for) one of the following:

- a Technical University Diploma, an Advanced Vocational Training Certificate or two years of a Licence degree (i.e. two years of higher education) in computer science and networks, with a keen interest in the performing arts.

- an Art Professions Diploma or an RNCP certification from the CFPTS (i.e. two years of higher education) in sound or lighting management, with an interest in networks and digital technology.

- an Advanced Vocational Training Certificate in audiovisual professions, with a keen interest in the technical aspects of the performing arts.

Benefits of the program

A work-study programme in partnership with the CFPTS, designed to meet the initial training and lifelong learning needs of performing arts professionals.

The course is taught and coordinated by working performance arts professionals and teachers from UGE. The involvement of professionals offers a practical perspective on the theory taught, a close insight on the applications and harmonisation with technical developments.

Acquired skills

Acquire the technical, organisational, management and communication skills needed to work as a stage network administrator for shows and events and/or venues.

Professional integration

Graduates are equipped to work for all types of live performance: theatre, dance, opera, music, circus, street performance and events.

They can be employed by theatres, service providers, local authorities, leisure parks and production companies.

Study objectives

In analysis and design:

· · Identify the architecture and types of media required to meet the demand

In planning and organisation:

· · Design and run a test environment

· · Prepare the management of a project

· · Develop detailed technical solutions

· · Plan and organise the work plan with the relevant departments

In production:

· · Configure, adjust and update all elements of the lighting, sound and video network chains

· · Install and wire equipment

· · Test and check that equipment is working properly in collaboration with the technicians concerned

In management:

· · Manage the equipment available

· · Manage infrastructure-related equipment

· · Manage budgetary aspects

· · Manage subcontracting

In evaluation and control processes:

· · Supervise the operation of networks

· · Identify potential problems

· · Report to the technical show management

· · Interact with the technical staff who will be using the network

Major thematics of study

Personalised technical basics: applied maths, algorithms, operating systems, signals, stage equipment, sound, lighting and video.

Specialist technical studies: general principles of networks and security, specific networks for sound, video, light and multimedia networks. Interactive application development software.

Project management - tools, methodology, management: written and oral communication, project management, law, technology intelligence, the professional environment of live performance, the economic model of events and live performance, risk prevention, professional English, information systems.

Calendar

One-year work-study programme: one semester divided equally between the training centre and the host company, followed by one full-time semester in the company.
